NXP Semiconductors has launched two new HS-CAN transceivers in the form of the TJA1042 and TJA1051. Extending NXP’s existing portfolio that includes the widely used TJA1040 and TJA1050, the new products offer a number of advantages over the current generation of HS-CAN transceivers.
These include enhanced CAN functionality, improved performance, greater reliability, environmentally friendly packaging and reduced system costs.
Designed for HS-CAN applications up to 1 Mbps and developed in collaboration with key players in the automotive industry, these new transceivers feature extremely low electromagnetic emissions and enhanced protection against ringing effects. This ensures reliable communications over even the most advanced networks, which feature an ever-increasing number of ECUs and ever more complex bus topologies.
Improved ESD performance (±8 kV according to the IEC 61000-4-2 standard) allows manufacturers to build electronic control units without having to incorporate external ESD protection. The transceivers disengage from the bus when they are not powered on or are operating in a low power mode. This results in current consumption of as little as 10 mA, enabling effective automotive power management with reduced CO2 emissions. Predictable under-voltage behaviour simplifies the design of systems that incorporate Start-Stop functionality.
Both transceivers are environmentally friendly, being RoHS-compliant, and do not contain any halogenated flame retardants. Fully ISO 11898-2 compliant, they have been qualified to the appropriate Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) standard Q100 and are suitable for use in automotive applications.
