High-speed RS232 transceivers

11 November 2009 Electronics Technology

Maxim introduced the MAX13234E-MAX13237E family of RS232 transceivers. Providing upgraded functionality to Maxim’s legacy MAX3224E-MAX3227E transceivers, these devices provide data rates up to 3 Mbps, low-voltage logic-level translation, low 1 μA supply current through the AutoShutdown Plus feature and enhanced ESD protection.

All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15 kV air-gap discharge and ±8 kV contact discharge per IEC 1000-4-2, as well as ±15 kV using the human body model. The devices thus enable high-speed data transmission while eliminating the need for external logic-level translation. This family of RS232 transceivers is suitable for telematics, GPS devices, point-of-sale equipment, portable electronics and industrial applications.

The MAX13234E/MAX13235E feature two receivers and two transmitters and are available in a space-saving TQFN/TSSOP package. The MAX13236E/MAX13237E have a single receiver and transmitter and are packaged in a compact TQFN. The MAX13235E/MAX1237E guarantee data rates up to 3 Mbps, while the MAX13234E/MAX13236E support 250 Kbps operation.

All devices operate from a 3 V to 5,5 V supply voltage and are fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
