New from Microsens is a device which facilitates the transmission of Ethernet via conventional 2-wire lines (telephone or ISTY cable) with a length of up to 1900 m with its Fast Ethernet extender.
With transmission speeds up to 50 Mbps, this extender offers high network performance which can be achieved at distances of up to 300 metres. To achieve greater distances of up to 1900 metres, the achievable bandwidth is derated correspondingly. The device is used in pairs according to the master/slave principle, with the configuration taking place via a DIP switch.
The network connection is performed via an RJ45 socket with 10/100Base TX auto-negotiation. The 2-wire line may be connected using either an RJ11 socket or a plug-in terminal. The maximum transmission speed is automatically negotiated in 10 speed steps depending on the distance and transmission quality, and then signalled to the user via LED displays.
The VDSL extender belongs to the ‘Entry Line’ product family and is designed for use in rough environments. It is vibration resistant and shock resistant in accordance with international standards. Installation is carried out using the plug and play principle on DIN mounting rails. The redundant power supply input permits supply with 24 V d.c. Ambient temperatures of -40°C to +75°C are admissible for operation.
The device can be deployed wherever there are only simple 2-wire lines available for Ethernet transmission and a new installation of the passive infrastructure is not possible. Owing to its performance and high data rates, this device is suitable for connecting IP cameras in the area of video surveillance.
