OTDR field tester
21 July 2010
Test & Measurement
The latest instrument to be added to the Yokogawa family of multifield testers is the AQ1200 OTDR (optical time-domain reflectometer). Designed to aid the installation, commissioning and maintenance of fibre-optic infrastructure including FTTx, the new instrument offers a comprehensive range of optical measurement capabilities in a compact handheld package measuring only 216 x 157 x 74 mm and weighing only 1 kg.
In addition to OTDR analysis functions, test features include a fault locator for automatically finding fault events, plus an optional visual fault locator using a visible light source. A further option allows optical loss testing in conjunction with a built-in stabilised light source and optical power meter with a range of +10 to
–70 dBm or +27 to –50 dBm. The AQ1200 incorporates an easy-to-read 5,7-inch colour LCD display, and offers built-in multiple language support. It operates at wavelengths of 1310 and 1550 nm over distances ranging from 500 m to 200 km and with pulse widths ranging from 3 ns to 10 μs.
Other facilities include a simple connection test option using the Ethernet PING test, support for an external video fibre inspection probe and multicore fibre test capability.
