PoE jacks with integrated magnetics

13 October 2010 Interconnection

ERNI Electronics has expanded its portfolio of modular jacks with the introduction of single-port variants with integrated magnetics (transformer) addressing both PoE and PoE+ applications. The new parts are designed for either PoE designs providing 350 mA or PoE+ applications with maximum current of 600 mA per pair. PoE+ allows power of up to 30 W (at PSE) and hence enables high-power network devices such as wireless access points, video/IP telephones, network cameras, door interlocking systems or point-of-sale terminals.

The tab-up configuration with 33 mm body length and compatibility with common PHYs of leading manufacturers make the new components suitable as drop-in replacements. A 12-core design with capacitors and resistors meets all Gigabit Ethernet requirements in switches or hub products, and the product has been configured to deliver voltage isolation and performance complying with FCC and IEEE 802.3 standards. The new modular jacks are available with integrated LEDs for status display. RoHS compatible and specified for industrial use, they feature an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and can be processed using lead-free wave soldering methods at temperatures of up to

270°C.
