Connector strips get rugged latching system

2 February 2011 Interconnection

Samtec has broadened its high-speed product offering for rugged, board-to-board applications with the addition of an optional metal latching system for its popular 0,8 mm pitch Q Strip connector strips.

The new latch increases unmating force by 13 Newtons and creates an audible click when properly mated.

This high-speed Q Strip header and socket system (QTE/QSE series) features an integral metal plane for power or ground rated to 10,1 A at 95°C. Signalling may be routed single-ended with performance to 9 GHz, or differentially with performance to 8,5 GHz at -3 dB insertion loss. The system is available in a choice of standard stack heights, from 5 mm to 25 mm, with application specific heights also available.

An alternate rugged feature to the latching system is a retention pin option which increases unmating force up to 50%. In addition, application specific guide posts, screw downs, friction locks and board spacing standoffs are available. With optional electro-polished selective plating, the QTE/QSE series Q Strip will also qualify for Samtec’s ‘Extended Life Products’ certification which includes 10 year MFG testing.
