The RPC series of surface mount resistor chips from Stackpole offers high pulse withstanding in a 5% tolerance part. The parts are completely untrimmed, which allows the entire width of the resistance element to dissipate the pulse power without any current crowding. This design is claimed to outperform other comparable thick film surge chips and offer superior pulse handling compared to metal film, carbon film and thick film pulse withstanding MELF (metal electrode leadless face) solutions.

The RPC series is targeted at applications requiring low-cost, high pulse handling capability including many types of low to medium power supplies, broadband and wireless electronics, power control and motion control systems, medical applications and imaging systems, GPS systems, AC and DC power modules and backplanes, thermostats, HVAC control systems and industrial motor controls.
