Radiocrafts has introduced a range of RF modules conforming to the KNX building automation standard. Devices supporting this communication medium use radio signals to transmit KNX telegrams in the 868 MHz (EU) frequency band, with a maximum radiated power of 25 mW and bit rate of 16,384 Kbps.
KNX RF radio modules from Radiocrafts incorporate embedded RSSI signal and automatic battery supervision. The protocol uses serial number addressing and domain addressing, and has an embedded internal KNX-RF packet handler. For improved radio quality, the system has a listen-before-talk feature to reduce collisions and the new KNX RF Multi feature for frequency switching is being implemented.
Hardware and protocol according to the KNX RF standard EN50090 is all included in the RC1180-KNX module as an off-the-shelf component. It allows uni- and bi-directional implementations, requires very low power consumption, and supports small and medium size installations. Re-transmitters are added when extended range is required.
The RC1180-KNX is a surface-mounted transceiver module measuring 12,7 x 25,4 x 3,3 mm, and can be integrated into any sensor or actuator. A UART interface is used for serial communication and configuration. An antenna is connected directly to the RF pin.
