Hirose’s DF59 multifunctional LED lighting connector is applicable for wire-to-board power supply connections and board-to-board ‘bridge’ connections. Only one type of receptacle is required, irrespective of whether the cable plug or board mount plug is used.
DF59 has a pitch of 2 mm or 4 mm, dependent on the application and related requirements such as clearance and creepage distances for power supply applications. The connection system can carry 3 A along a 1,26 mm diameter cable. Specified voltage is 100 V or 230 V depending on the pin size used.
The connector system is available in two, three, four or six positions to satisfy a broad range of lighting applications. The low mated height of 2,5 mm and overall small size of 8 x 9 mm (3-position wire-to-board) is targeted at bright lighting where many narrowly mounted LEDs are used. The compact size of the connector prevents formation of shadows and the natural white colour of the moulding material helps the DF59 to appear invisible.
The wire-to-board connector utilises the Hirose ‘swing’ locking mechanism for increased cable retention force. The cable end of the plug is mated at a slight angle to engage with the special cavities in the receptacle, while the other end of the plug is pushed down to complete the mating operation which is confirmed by an audible tactile click. The board-to-board ‘bridge’ connector is mated by a friction lock system. This has a floating structure to allow a tolerance of ±0,5 mm in all three triaxial directions.
