Single-row connectors

9 November 2011 Interconnection

Economy Power 2.5 (EP 2.5) from TE Connectivity is a single-row crimp connector system comprising plug housings, contacts and headers, based on a 2,5 mm pitch.

As good handling properties are essential for such a compact connector to achieve a correct and reliable interconnection during assembly, EP 2.5 housings and contacts (terminals) were designed to help the workers on the shop floor with their manual tasks. The low insertion force terminals, for instance, have an asymmetrical shape which means that they can only be loaded in the housing’s cavity in the correct way. A true locking latch prevents the plug housing and post header from vibrating apart, while a terminal position assurance device produces a tangible click once a receptacle contact is fully seated. A visual aid confirms that the contact is home and also provides easy access to a probe tip for continuity testing.

EP 2.5 connector halves are available with 2 to 20 positions. They can be utilised to integrate up to 20 discrete wires with #26 to #22 AWG size into a single printed circuit board section of roughly 5 cm length. EP 2.5 connectors are intermateable with similar products in the market to facilitate simple retrofitting.
