EXFO announced the addition of WDM-Aware testing capabilities to its FTB-5240S/B-P optical spectrum analysers, together with additional features such as referencing, on-graph peak detection level and SCPI commands.
In today’s competitive market, operators face network- and cost-related challenges stemming from a widespread phenomenon: the average revenue per user is decreasing, yet subscribers want more data, increasing bandwidth needs and affecting revenue. In response to this, the FTB-5240S/B-P OSA’s WDM-Aware offers the i-in-band mode – intelligent setups, optimised on a per-channel basis, which deliver accurate test results automatically.
Higher network speeds such as 40G also mean longer distances and wider channels, which weakens the channels and increases filtered noise. EXFO’s latest FTB-5240S/B-P software addition helps to clearly differentiate noise from signals and analyses only what deserves to be analysed: with the on-graph peak detection threshold line, there are no false peak analyses or overlooked low-power peaks. Furthermore, a deployed system ages over time and will continue to change during its lifespan. EXFO’s FTB-5240S/B-P OSA brings built-in referencing in WDM mode, which allows operators to see the original trace display – what it is today and what has changed.
The OSA also enables remote access to test tools to meet the demands of network equipment manufacturers who require 24/7 testing, lab simulations and remote control. The latest SCPI command feature allows the stop and start of any kind of operation and the ability to fully configure the OSA remotely.
