California Micro Devices offers the PACUSB-U1/U2/U3, a USB (universal serial bus) termination and filtering product, for use in PDAs, two-way pagers, and Internet appliances. It is available in a 6-pin SC70 package format, which is significantly smaller than the 6-pin SOT23 package. The small form factor of the PACUSB-U1/U2/U3 enables the device to be used in products where board space constraint is a key factor. Utilising California Micro Devices' patented P/Active technology, the device provides EMI/RFI filtering, termination and ESD protection that exceeds IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 specification. The PACUSB-U1/U2/U3 is able to protect the PDA or Internet appliance from accidental damage caused by ESD up to 30 kV (contact discharge) when tested to IEC 61000-4-2 specifications.
The PACUSB-U1/U2/U3 device terminates the two data lines for the USB port and is a single-chip solution for USB upstream applications. There are three series resistor (R1) values available to engineers to match it and the USB driver's resistance with the USB cable's impedance. The three R1 values that CAMD offers are 15 Ohm, 33 Ohm, and 22 Ohm for PACUSB-U1, PACUSB-U2, and PACUSB-U3 respectively. Since the solution is silicon-based and its quality and reliability matches that of today's integrated circuits, California Micro Devices says that with the integration of resistors, capacitors and diodes on silicon, this device achieves termination, filtering and ESD protection of a USB port while also providing significant savings in cost and board space.
