Socket 370 compact single board computer

1 August 2001 Computer/Embedded Technology

AAEON's Compact Board-size PCM-6896 single board computer targets high-end multimedia and networking applications. This board supports Intel Celeron and Pentium III CPUs. Easy upgradeability allows one to take full advantage of Intel's development of higher speed CPUs. This board is highly suited for embedded applications that require cost-effective high computing power communications products - whether video, voice, or data convergence over Internet protocol network infrastructures.

The PCM-6896 adopts the 10/100 MB Intel 815E Ethernet controller that offers higher network performance and reliability. In addition, it features power management to minimise power consumption - ACPI-compliant, it supports three types of power-saving features: Doze mode, Standby and Suspend.

The onboard Compact Flash socket offers a larger memory bank for data storage of all types. The onboard 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface and SoundBlaster compatible audio opens up possibilities for kiosks, gaming systems, POS systems, medical and educational products. The Fast Ethernet controller provides a tenfold increase in network capability, and is fully compatible with traditional 10 Mbps network facilities.

PCM-6896 also includes four high-speed serial ports (three RS232, one RS232/422/485), one multimode (ECP/EPP/SPP) parallel port, two floppy drives, an Ultra DMA/100, enhanced IDE controller supporting up to two devices with data transfer rate up to 100 MB per second, and a keyboard/PS/2 mouse interface.
