element 14 is supplying PiFace Digital, a new accessory which allows the Raspberry Pi to control and sense physical devices such as lights and motors. It is ideal for educationalists or hobbyists as well as anybody interested in electronics, software or systems control.
PiFace Digital is available as an assembled I/O expansion board and plugs simply and conveniently on top of the Raspberry Pi to let users make easy screw-terminal connections to control devices such as motors and solenoids, and to read basic sensors and switches.
It can also control physical quantities like temperature, pressure and speed, or switch states like whether a door is open or closed. Using logical programming it is possible to define reactions to some of these quantities. For example a temperature can be measured once every five seconds; if it is more than a preset level a fan can be switched on.
