Low-power '586 PC-on-a-chip is 'failsafe'

ZF Micro Devices' ultra-low power (<1/2 W at 133 MHz) ZFx86 PC-on-a-chip is based on a Cyrix 586 CPU core and fabricated by National Semiconductor. The ZFx86 is implemented on a single die that includes the CPU, cache memory, PC core logic, boot ROM, I/O functions, north bridge (PCI bus interface), south bridge (ISA bus interface), and DRAM interface. To help minimise costs, the ZFx86 DRAM interface supports both 32 and 16 bit data widths, which makes it possible to design a working system that needs just one DRAM chip.

The ZFx86 PC-on-a-chip is claimed to be the only device available that ensures successful on-line software upgrades. Using its patented 'FailSafe System' it allows upgrades over the Internet while eliminating the possibility of irrecoverable crashes.
