Expandable rugged computer

20 March 2013 Computer/Embedded Technology

Avalue Technology has introduced the EMS-CDV expandable rugged computer system targeting routers, factory automation, control systems and industrial transportation applications.

The system is powered by an Intel Atom D2550 dual-core processor and Intel NM10 Express chipset, producing TDP (thermal design power) lower than 10 Watts for the processor and 12,1 Watts when the computer is running on full power.

The EMS-CDV supports one 204-pin DDR3 SODIMM up to 4 GB DDR3 800/1066 SDRAM. Its I/O loadout includes one x VGA, one x LAN, one x SIM card slot, one x swappable 2,5” drive bay, one x 12-bit GPIO, one x SMBUS, two x COM, two x PS/2 for keyboard and mouse, three x USB and two knockout antenna mountings.

The system supports expansion via daughter cards for multi-COM, multi-LAN bypass, multi-LAN PoE and multi-COM isolation functionality. It has a front-accessible, swappable 2,5” drive bay, SSD and SIM card slot to ease maintenance, as well as a service window to easily access mSATA, Mini-PCIe and DRAM.

The EMS-CDV is cable-less and certified by industrial product quality tests, including anti-vibration (continuous vibrations) of up to 5 Grms and anti-shock of up to 50 Grms tests. It also withstands industrial environments in temperatures between -10°C and +60°C and supports a stable +12 to +28 V d.c. input.
