Vectron announced its new VS–501, a high-frequency, low-noise VCSO (voltage controlled SAW oscillator) providing low phase noise clock signals to high-speed data converter applications.
Data converters are evolving to reach higher speeds and enabling architectural evolution in the way that high-throughput data is processed in the digital domain. High-speed digital-to-analog converters (DAC) can now output RF signals directly, removing the need for analog up-conversion stages and allowing for true software-defined radio architectures. High-speed ADCs are making coherent optical communications a reality.
Utilising data conversion on high-speed signals, whether in wireless base-stations, optical communications, test and measurement or military communications, requires extremely low-phase-noise, low-jitter clock signals in order to guarantee the highest levels of signal quality.
The VS–501 provides these performance levels in the 800 MHz to 2,5 GHz range with noise floors as low as -164 dBc/Hz and integrated phase jitter at 12 fs rms in the 12 kHz to 20 MHz band.
