RF coaxial connectors

10 July 2013 Interconnection

Rosenberger has developed a wide range of RF coaxial connectors for future PCB applications; solder versions and also surface-mount connectors are available. The spectrum includes straight and right-angle connectors in innovative coaxial series such as SMP, longwipe-SMP, P-SMP, Mini-SMP, FMC, Micro-RF or multiport connectors, but also in standard series SMA, QMA, SMB, Mini-Coax or MCX.

Rosenberger surface mount PCB connectors use patented SMCC technology where the coax to planar transition is made internally in the connector. This feature, along with Rosenberger’s optimised footprint, can reduce designers’ time in developing new PCB layouts.

The company’s SMP range for multifunctional board-to-board connections features a frequency range up to 40 GHz and minimum board-to-board distance of 9,05 mm. Axial and radial tolerance equalisation is realised by the use of bullets which are available in different lengths.

P-SMP board-to-board connectors operate up to 10 GHz with ±1 mm axial misalignment tolerance. They support board-to-board distance down to 12,6 mm and are designed for high-power loads even at high frequencies (e.g. up to 200 W @ 2,2 GHz).

The Mini-SMP is Rosenberger’s smallest connector design and covers a frequency range up to 65 GHz with a minimum board-to-board distance of 7,95 mm. It is ideally suited for high-speed interconnect applications, e.g. at 40 Gbps.

Multiport Mini-Coax connectors are available as PCB connectors with 2, 4, 6 and 8 channels. They have 3 mm pitch and are designed for semiconductor test applications up to 20 GHz.

Rosenberger’s FMC range is designed for space-constrained PCB applications with minimum board-to-board distance of 6,05 mm. They operate up to 11 GHz.

Longwipe-SMP connectors are rated for frequencies up to 6 GHz and board-to-board distances down to 9,31 mm with ±0,7 mm axial equalisation.

Finally, the company’s Micro-RF PCB connector range is designed for applications up to 6 GHz and feature a footprint of just 1,8 x 1,9 mm and height of 1,5 mm.
