Touch-safe connectors

18 September 2013 Interconnection

Anderson Power Products has introduced a new version of its Saf-D-Grid connector featuring an ultra short receptacle.

The Saf-D-Grid range meets international safety requirements for hazardous, low-voltage applications per UL1977 and IEC 61984, as well as touch safety requirements of UL60950 and IEC60950. It is size compatible with the IEC 320 C13 and C14 AC connection system standard 19,9 by 26,8 mm panel cutout. The new ultra short receptacle minimises space requirements within the device and enables solder termination to wire.

Offering a connector capable of safe disconnect of 400 V d.c., 20 A loads, the connector is touch safe on both plug and receptacle sides to protect the user from capacitance in the line. Proper voltage clearance and DC arc protection are achieved through unique geometries which minimise the severity and duration of DC arc flash while shielding the operator.

Saf-D-Grid also enables high power density by allowing up to 40 A and 600 V d.c. or a.c. within the same space as the IEC 320 C13 and C14 system that is limited to 10 A and 250 V a.c.
