Serial asynchronous adapters
12 September 2001
Computer/Embedded Technology
The Intellicon-2, Intellicon-4 and Intellicon-8 are intelligent asynchronous communications adapters from Connect-Tech that allow multiple terminals, modems, printers or other serial devices to be connected to an IBM PC or compatible computer. Intellicon adapters are ideal solutions for multi-user, multitasking realtime environments requiring multichannel data collection, distribution and processing.
Allowing for high-speed communications the Intellicon boards provide data transfer rates up to 38,4 Kbaud. Each port has independent baud rate selection. The on-board processor and dual-ported RAM off-loads the burden of managing communications from the main CPU. The user can software select options such as edit, echo, I/O flow control and character translation to be processed on the Intellicon. The result is efficient I/O communications and better processing performance for the host system.
Enhanced features
Transparent print under Unix allows the concurrent operation of printers attached to terminals, while the terminal is in use. One port for both printer and terminal offers the user a more cost-effective print solution for their application.
Adjustable FIFO buffer thresholds and timeouts allow one to customise the Intellicon performance to better meet communication requirements. Full support for half-duplex and full-duplex RS485 communications.
Intellicon supports a number of popular multi-user operating systems. Custom software can be downloaded to the on-board RAM to support specialised protocols. Multiple Intellicon boards may reside in a computer to accommodate large multi-user environments.
