Chopper regulator brings new benefits

The Sharp PQ1CY series of chopper regulators has a number of features that benefit applications demanding maximum efficiency and low overall cost, including battery-powered and automotive. Based on proven PWM chopper technology for step-down, step-up or voltage inversion, the internal switches are rated at currents from 1,5 to 3,5 A with a maximum input voltage of 40 V. To achieve very low current dissipation in standby mode, an on/off input is provided. Also integrated are overcurrent and overheat protection circuits, together with soft-start control.

The oscillator frequency is fixed internally at 70, 100 or 150 kHz to minimise external components; a complete power supply only needs the addition of an inductor, fly-back diode and two capacitors and resistors.

Package options are conventional TO-220-style or SMD.
