High-accuracy, power-saving voltage references

26 September 2001 Power Electronics / Power Management

Microchip's MCP1525 and MCP1541 precision voltage references offer low operating current, superior load and line regulation and an initial accuracy down to ±1%.

The devices are suited for applications in data acquisition systems, instrumentation, battery-powered systems and communication equipment. The 2,5 V MCP1525 and 4,096 V MCP1541 provide superior solutions for 3 or 5 V systems where minimum power dissipation and high stability are required. These devices are capable of supplying up to 2 mA of load current while operating at an extremely low operating current (100 µA at 25°C). Advanced CMOS circuit design and EPROM trimming provide an initial tolerance of 1% (maximum) and temperature stability as low as 50 ppm/°C.

Microchip's Power Management product portfolio already includes low dropout regulators, switching regulators, charge pumps, supervisors and voltage detectors, allowing Microchip to provide power management support for almost all embedded control system applications. The new precision voltage references are ideal for a variety of applications such as portable battery-powered equipment (PDAs, DVMs, GPS, cellular phones, etc), communications equipment, precision power supplies, instrumentation and process control. The MCP1525 and MCP1541 are available in small 3-pin SOT-23 and TO-92 packages.
