Using the Micro PLC platform from Maxim Integrated, designers now have the tools to implement Industry 4.0 with less power, parts and total costs. The trend of Industry 4.0 marks a move of factory systems away from large, centralised programmable logic controllers (PLCs) toward modular, decentralised Micro PLCs that promise to provide better efficiency and flexibility.
Maxim’s platform currently consists of five reference designs which can operate as standalone subsystems and be configured and tested with a laptop’s USB port. Featuring analog input, analog output, digital input, digital output and IO-Link master functionality, respectively, the boards come with free schematics, layout files and firmware.
