Dual-display embedded signage system

25 February 2015 Computer/Embedded Technology

VIA Technologies announced the ARTiGO A1300, a fanless quad-core system with rich connectivity and networking features designed for a wide range of dual-display signage, kiosk, menu board, HMI and other applications.

With its sleek form factor measuring 18,5 x 4,4 x 16,2 cm (W x H x D), the device fits into space-constrained environments such as behind a monitor, on a wall with a 10 x 10 cm VESA mount, or inside a retail kiosk. Fanless operation combined with rigorous reliability testing ensures reliability in demanding conditions, from retail stores to factory floors.

The computer is based on the 1 GHz VIA QuadCore E-Series processor and VIA VX11PH media system processor to provide rich multimedia capabilities for single- and dual-screen signage displays. In addition to being able to play two 1080p videos or four 720p videos at the same time, the system supports DX11 graphics resolutions of up to 1920 x 1080 pixels through its two HDMI ports. Each HDMI display can operate independently, enabling multimedia content to be displayed at different resolutions, pixel depths and refresh rates.

The ARTiGO A1300 delivers a rich set of I/O features through its front and left panels, enabling connectivity for a wide range of digital signage and embedded applications. Front panel I/O includes two USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI ports, one Gigabit Ethernet port, line-in/out audio jacks, as well as a 12 V DC-in power connector.

Left panel I/O features include two USB 2.0 ports, one COM port for RS232/422/485 and one digital I/O port for 8-bit GPIO connections. Onboard I/O includes one mSATA connector, one SATA connector, one SIM card slot and one Mini-PCIe slot to provide additional expansion options.

The system also offers optional high-speed wireless networking capabilities through a choice of 802.11b/g/n USB and 3.75G HSP/UMTS mini-PCIe mobile broadband modules. Wake On LAN (WOL) and Boot from LAN (PXE) support is also included, making the system an ideal solution for customers to create a host of remotely managed devices for almost any environment.

The system is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Embedded 7 and popular Linux distributions. Customers can take advantage of VIA’s hardware and software support, including software solution packs and the SMART ETK (Embedded Tool Kit) to create customised designs.

Customers have the option of bundling MagicView, a powerful content management platform for designing, distributing and displaying digital signage content, for specific projects. With its advanced functions such as schedule management, client monitoring, reporting and secure network, this makes it easy to freely arrange content across the system’s screens to deliver the maximum impact in a diverse range of environments such as hospitality, retail, entertainment, restaurants and a host of other public spaces.
