Quectel recently launched a low-cost, ROM based GPS module with integrated patch antenna. Supplied in a 15 x 15 x 4 mm LCC package, the L80-R is compact enough to be designed into miniature devices, while offering strong acquisition and tracking performance.
The module employs an assisted GPS (AGPS) technology called EASY (Embedded Assist System). This allows it to calculate and predict orbits automatically using ephemeris data (up to three days) stored in internal memory, so it can fix position quickly even at indoor signal levels with low power consumption.
Designed to meet industrial standards, the L80-R is suitable for a broad range of M2M applications such as portable devices, automotive, personal tracking, security and industrial PDA, as well as GPS mouse and OBD. The module is pin-to-pin compatible with the already launched L80 and L86.
