Exar’s new family of synchronous step-down (buck) power modules are complete system-in-package power management solutions with fully integrated power converters, including MOSFETs, inductors and internal input and output capacitors.
The XR79103, XR79106, XR79203 and XR79206 are 22 V and 40 V devices with load current ratings of 3 A and 6 A. The XR79103’s and XR79106’s wide 4,5 V to 22 V input voltage range allows for single supply operation from industry standard 5 V, 12 V and 19,6 V rails. The XR79203 and XR79206 have an even wider 4,5 V to 40 V input voltage range, allowing for single supply operation from industry standard 24 V ±10%, 18 V – 36 V and rectified 18 V a.c. and 24 V a.c. rails.
With a proprietary emulated current mode constant-on-time (COT) control scheme, these modules provide extremely fast line and load transient response using ceramic output capacitors. They require no loop compensation, simplifying circuit implementation and reducing overall component count. A selectable power saving mode allows the user to operate in discontinuous current mode (DCM) at light current loads, thereby significantly increasing the converter efficiency.
Available in a QFN package, these modules provide enhanced thermal performance and manufacturability. The QFN package makes visual inspection of solder joints possible and eases electrical debugging.
