Network data acquisition solutions

26 Jan 2000 Test & Measurement

The IDAM 7000 is a complete series of network data acquisition and control modules which provide cost-effective protection and conditioning for a wide range of valuable industrial control signals and systems. These series modules from Axion include sensor-to-computer, computer-to-sensor, digital I/O, timer/counter, RS485 converter, RS422/485 repeater, data display and application software. In comparison with traditional RS485 networking modules, the I-7000 Series modules offer several benefits:

* 100% compatible with the existing remote data acquisition modules.

* Compatible with the existing drivers.

* Complete product selection.

* Multiple baud rate and multiple data format on an RS485 network.

* Dual watchdog design.

* Cost-effective.

Features

The I-7000 modules provide signal conditioning, system monitoring, alarm signal output, safe value setting. The I-7520 contains a self tuner ASIC on the module. This chip can automatically tune the data baud rate and data format in the whole RS485 network. In other words, the user may use it via RS485 network to link PLC, RS485 devices, RS232 devices and other PCs even if the data format and data baud rate of those devices are different.

The I/O type and range of modules are configurable. The user can select the type and range from the remote site by issuing command from the host. One can use fewer models for different applications. It can increase application flexibility and lower the maintenance cost.

Standalone control allows the I-7188 embedded control module to control the I-7000 modules and control the local I/O directly without the host. An application program can be downloaded to the flash memory from the host via the RS232 port.

The I-7000 Series are equipped with 'Module and Host Watchdog'. The Module Watchdog is a hardware watchdog and the Host Watchdog is a software watchdog. The Module Watchdog is designed to automatically reset the microprocessor when the module fails. The Host Watchdog monitors the host controller (PC or PLC). The output of the module can go to the safe value state if the host fails.

Use

The I-7000 modules require 10 to +30 V unregulated DC power supply. The modules can be either mounted on a DIN rail, panel or wall mounted. The user can use the screw terminal block to connect the signal. The plug-in terminal blocks are used in the I-7000 modules. The user may hot-swap the modules directly and lower the maintenance effort.
