Panasonic’s new range of soft-PGS (Pyrolytic Graphite Sheet) thermal interface material provides excellent thermal protection in an easy-to-use format that makes it ideal for delivering thermal management and heatsinking in applications where space is limited. It also provides a supplemental heatsinking ability that enhances protection offered by more conventional means. This means the material can be used in a large variety of markets and in any temperature-sensitive application, being especially useful in enclosed or confined areas.
The ultra thin soft-PGS sheets provide an easy to handle and control thermal interface material, which is only 200 μm thick, synthetically made, and offers high thermal conductivity. The sheets are manufactured from a highly oriented graphite polymer film, which creates a material that is flexible and can be easily cut into customised shapes. The material also offers excellent heat resistance and reliability, which can help deliver a longer service life and ensure higher performance for various components such as power modules. In particular, as soft-PGS can be compressed by 40%, it is ideal for dramatically reducing the thermal resistance between a heatsink and an IGBT module.
In addition, the material’s high compressibility enables it to help reduce thermal resistance, as it provides a better fitting alternative to uneven surfaces compared to standard PGS. The soft-PGS compressible graphite range is available in a huge selection of material sizes for different manufacturer modules, and ranges from dimensions such as 24 x 37 mm or 180 x 180 mm and up to sizes as large as 140 x 308 mm. The material is also available in small pack sizes and manufacturer pack quantities (MPQ) to meet design and pre-production requirements.
