Backplanes and interface PCBs use more and more DIN 41612/IEC 60 603-2 and 2,0 mm hard metric press-fit connectors. Because of this the use of D-Sub high power connectors with solder terminations has a serious cost impact.
Erni's high power D-Sub press-fit connector series has been developed to provide an economical solution to the high cost of solder termination. This series allows much more economical and reliable assembly on the backplane, as press-fit technology has a significantly lower failure rate than solder technology.
Pin configurations are available in 3W3, 3WK3, 5W5 and 8W8 which may be loaded with a maximum of 3, 5 or 8 male/female high power contacts. Part loadings are also available upon request.
The German PTT has standardised on the 3W3 version, loaded with two contacts, as a 60 V power supply connector.
The benefits of pressfit connectors are gas-tight, corrosion-proof and mechanically strong connections; nonpolluting - no use of cleaning, flux or solder media; no thermal stress on the PCB.
For cable termination solutions, either the KSG200 cable connector housings with superior EMI/RFI shielding or the KSG183 and KSG185 can be used for good ESD protection.
