Integrated T1/E1 socket protection passes independent tests

Pulse's PulseJack family of RJ-45 connectors has successfully passed independent tests from a leading connector evaluation firm. Combining isolation transformers and lineside protection into a T1/E1 single socket, Pulse has provided electronics designers with a range of connectors offering both integrated magnetics and telephone network voltages (TNV) circuit protection. The new line of single port PulseJack RJ-45 connectors are designed to protect vulnerable equipment such as computer modems, notebooks and servers from line voltage surges.
Unlike other RJ-45 connectors, the PulseJack has integral circuit protection, requiring no separate circuit transceiver, leading to improved electrical performance and space saving. Proliferation of telecommunications circuitry in electronic devices has left valuable equipment vulnerable to the damage caused by overvoltage and overcurrent surges. Such events can result from lightning strikes, AC power cross disturbances and line voltage surges. Contech Research has independently verified that the PulseJack RJ-45 family meets all relevant surge immunity and electrical safety standards, including Bellcore GR-1089, FCC Part 68 and UL 1949/1950.
Improved electrical performance can be achieved by minimising the electrical trace length between the RJ-45 connector and the integrated circuit transceiver, also resulting in a more space-efficient module. This discrete connector module is transfer moulded and utilises Pulse's patented InterLock base construction.
The IC grade transfer package of the RJ-45 connector withstands up to 235°C IR reflow, whilst operating temperatures range from 0°C to +70°C with an inductance value of 0,6 mH and turns ratios of 1:2,42 for transmission and 1:2,42 for receiving.
