8 bit CMOS Flash microcontrollers and support tools

27 February 2002 DSP, Micros & Memory

The COP8AME9/ANE9 are two new Flash microcontrollers from National Semiconductor. They offer 8 KB of Flash memory with high security and advanced features including virtual EEPROM, dual op-amps (one with programmable gain), temperature sensor, A/D, high speed timers, USART and brownout reset. The COP8AME9/ANE9 have true in-system programmable Flash memory with high endurance (100k erase/write cycles), and are well suited for applications requiring realtime data collection and processing, multiple sensory interface and remote monitoring. The same device is used for development, pre-production and volume production. Support is available in the form of a range of COP8 software and hardware development tools.

Features are: 512 bytes SRAM; 10 bit successive approximation ADC; op-amps have selectable programmable gain (1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 49, 98) with adjustable offset voltage nulling and have 1 MHz GBW with low offset voltage and high input impedance; single supply operation: (4,5-5,5 V); three 16-bit timers; brownout reset (COP8AME9 only); 7-input analog MUX with selectable output destination; and low radiated emission design (quiet).

COP8Flash microcontrollers are supported by a variety of hardware and software development tools.

* COP8-REF-FL1: This reference design for COP8FLASH family is a realtime hardware environment with a variety of functions for demonstrating the various capabilities and features of COP8FLASH devices. It can be run in standalone mode, or can be controlled from a PC running Windows 95/98/NT.

* COP8-EMFLASH-00 is a realtime (20 MHz) in-circuit emulator (entry-level). Along with other features it has 16 software breakpoints but no trace.

* COP8-DMFLASH-00 is also a realtime (20 MHz) in-circuit emulator. In comparison to COP8-EMFLASH-00 it has 32k software breakpoints and 32k frame trace with 'search' function.

* COP8-IMFLASH-00 is a full-featured realtime (20 MHz) in-circuit emulator. In addition to all the features of COP8-EMFLASH-00 and COP8-DMFLASH-00 it has adjustable trigger and pass counter, 32k software or hardware breakpoints and its 32k frame trace buffer is with 'read' and 'search' functions.
