As more electronic equipment is being used outdoors, so the requirements for waterproof connectors increase. Hirose's HR30 is a push-pull latched connector that has been designed to IP67, enabling it to withstand submersion for up to half an hour when mated.
This miniature circular connector has an outside diameter of 12,6 mm, housing six contacts in a lightweight plastic shell that is totally resistant to corrosion. Both the plug and receptacle use gold plated solder bucket contacts, rated to 2 A.
Pushing the plug home is made easy by aligning two arrows and an audible click assures positive mating. Incorrect insertion is not possible due to a unique 5-key polarising system. The receptacle is fixed in place with a nut and is sealed against the panel with a gasket. The HR30 is unmated by retracting the outer sleeve on the plug and is designed to withstand 1000 mating cycles.
Behind the plug's collet style cable strain relief is a 10 mm long gasket to seal the cable. These features are deployed when the shell is screwed into position onto the insulator, and is achieved without specialist tools.
Main applications are for measuring instruments, telecoms equipment, and other electronic appliances.
