Compact rotary position sensor with extended life

Murata has released its PVS1 Series of long-life compact rotary position sensors to the market. The PSV1 can detect the angle of rotation as a change of output voltage without using any extra conversion circuits. The deviation from linearity representing the relationship between the rotation angle and output voltage, is as low as ±2% according to the manufacturer.
The PVS1 Series has a guaranteed product life of 1 million rotations, far longer than the 100 000 rotations provided by previous contact-type products. This extended life is achieved by optimising both the contact material and the structure. This series is a surface mount type measuring 12 x 11 x 2,1 mm, and is only 2,1 mm thick (excluding the projections). Designed without containing lead, they can be reflow soldered at a peak temperature of 260°C when lead-free soldering material of Sn-Ag-Cu, is used. It is also dust-proof.
