Tantalum caps with MnO2 provide better performance

Passive Components
The TPS Series III tantalum chip capacitors from AVX feature superior electrical characteristics. According to the company they were developed to provide design engineers with low ESR, wide voltage range, excellent stability and high reliability at low-cost. The TPS Series III uses MnO2 technology in conjunction with tantalum dielectric to fulfil the requirements of switch-mode power supply, microprocessor and digital circuit applications.
Unlike polymer counter-electrode systems, when MnO2 is used as the counter-electrode material in tantalum capacitors, its conductivity increases as temperature increases. This results in lower ESR at elevated temperatures. The TPS Series III offers the reliability of standard tantalum with the field performance, stability and electrical/thermal stress resistance of traditional MnO2.
These capacitors feature voltage ranges from 4 V-50 V, with a maximum capacitance value of 1000 µF. Standard capacitance tolerances are ±10% and ±20%, with operating temperatures ranging from -55 to +125°C. Featuring ESR values as low as 40 mOhm, they offer ripple current values as high as 2,5 A r.m.s.
