Coaxial switch matrix integrates with Ethernet networks

19 June 2002 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Dow-Key Microwave, the manufacturer of electromechanical coaxial and waveguide switches, switch matrices and related passive components, has introduced the re-configurable CANBus-based integrated switch matrix, equipped with a built-in Ethernet port.

This switch matrix is based on the well-established standard design of the SP8T switch with internal termination. Access to the termination port via SMA connectors enables it to be used as a building block for redundancy solutions, allowing insertion of multiple redundant units into any determined subset of the eight main network lines. Dual-use technology is implemented with focus on the wireless market needs, especially in the area of satellite ground stations and wireless networking solutions.

The 9D8-420822T performs up to 26 GHz. This Ethernet (802.3)-based switch matrix can be easily accessed from anywhere in the world via TCP/IP protocols on 10BaseT networks. The switch can be also controlled using the CANBus interface. Characteristics include 11-14 V d.c (12 V d.c. nominal), operating current is 750 mA typical. Equipped with a self cut-off latching actuator, the device switches in 60 ms (max).

Each unit is supplied with contactless indicator circuitry that monitors the movement of the RF contact actuators using photosensors. Available options include external 2 WCW 50 W terminations installed on all termination ports. Various models cover frequencies from DC to 26 GHz.
