High performance ADC with programmable signal conditioning

Analog Devices' AD7725 is a complete 16-bit, sigma-delta converter based on a fifth order modulator and a programmable digital processor.

Processing power is equivalent to 130 million multiply-accumulate operations per second (MACS). This processing can be used for advanced signal conditioning before the data leaves the AD7725, which frees up other precious DSP resources, says ADI.

The output of the modulator first traverses three cascaded finite impulse response (FIR) filters before entering the programmable processor. Here the user can configure up to 108 coefficients with multiply-accumulate operations. Among its signal processing capabilities are low pass, high pass, band-pass, stop-band filters, linearisation; programmable signal conditioning; and configurable decimation ratios.

Typical applications are in: instrumentation; telecom test equipment; medical/ultrasound imaging; and scanners.
