Winbond Electronics has launched the W551C, a line of speech serial memory ICs suited for a wide variety of toy applications. Winbond, a leader in IC solutions for the toy market, currently offers the PowerSpeech, BandDirector and ViewTalk speech IC product lines. The W551C series is aimed at edutainment (education and entertainment) toys, handheld interactive games, and LCD applications.
The operating voltage ranges from 2,4 V to 5,5 V and power consumption is low at 5 mA while in operation and 2 µA in standby. Frequency is up to 1 MHz (@Vdd = 2,4 V). These devices have three versatile operation modes: serial read mode; serial check-sum output mode; and fast self-test mode. Read access time is 500 ns and the devices are offered in seven memory densities that range from 256 Kb through to 8 Mb. They can be directly cascaded for longer duration applications.
