AAEON's SBC-558 is believed to be the world's first low power half-size SBC platform solution that comes with a PC/104 Plus interface. The SBC-558, designed with a consistent form factor, is a powerful single board computer with an integral CRT/LCD controller, 100Base-TX Ethernet, latest Disk- OnChip capability, and two serial ports.
Equipped with Intel's Tillamook Pentium 266 MHz CPU onboard, the manufacturer says the SBC-558 is powerful enough for a wide range of mid- to high-end embedded applications. The Tillamook is low on power consumption and gives off less heat than other processors in its league, claims AAEON. Heat dissipation is provided through a heatsink and no fan is required, allowing for an extremely quiet board that is suitable in fields such as medical equipment, automation, telecommunications, and security systems.
The SBC-558's all-Intel solution includes the 430TX chipset, the 82559ER Ethernet controller, and a 144 pin SODIMM socket allowing for up to 128 MB of memory to be installed. The onboard C&T 69 000 chipset is a high performance CRT/LCD Windows accelerator with 2 MB built-in range of flat panel displays, including 36 bit TFT LCD displays allowing simultaneous viewing of LCD and CRTs.
Its SSD socket supports M-System's DiskOnChip up to 288 MB. The Fast Ethernet Controller (Intel 82559) provides 100 Mbps-network capability and is fully compatible with traditional 10Base-T facilities. The half-size SBC-558 employs PC/104 Plus modular system architecture providing PCI bus function as well as a compact and rugged design for building process control and embedded systems. The board is easy to assemble to provide an overall low-maintenance solution.
The SBC-558 is also equipped with two high speed serial ports (one RS232, one RS232/422/485), one multi-mode (ECP/EPP/SPP) parallel port, a floppy drive controller, an Ultra DMA/33 enhanced IDE controller, and a keyboard and PS/2 mouse interface.
