has been one of the most famous microcontroller series. NEC now offers the µPD78-F0078, which follows the successful µPD78F0034 as an important extension of the more than 400 derivatives family. This general-purpose device is equipped with the following on-chip peripherals: 8-channel 10 bit A/D converter; three serial interfaces (UART/SIO); two 16 bit and two 8 bit time-event counter; watch timer; watchdog timer; two-channel PWM and buzzer output. Optionally, an additional I2C interface is available. A total of 52 I/O pins connects the device with external components.

Depending on the requirements, the customer can decide between 48 or 60 KB mask ROM and 60 KB flash ROM. The RAM size of each is 2048 byte. The maximum clock frequency of the µPD78F0078 is 8,3 MHz, the voltage range is specified as 1,8 to 5,5 V. To save energy, a 'subclock-mode' (32 kHz) can be switched on at any time.

Possible applications are all kinds of appliance controls and also in telephones, AV-equipment or in the automotive sector.
