Texas Instruments, a leader in RFID (radio frequency identification) contactless cards has teamed up with access control reader manufacturer Third Millennium and technology provider TSSI to bring practical and cost-effective RFID and fingerprint biometric solutions to manufacturers and integrators of access control and user authentication systems.
This joint approach has allowed Third Millennium to combine the high security of TSSI's award-winning Verid+ fingerprint verification technology with the latest generation of 13,56 MHz contactless ISO 15693 smart proximity cards from Texas Instruments RFid Systems, all in a new compact integrated reader. Users simply present their card and then their finger - their contactless badge or card is automatically identified, the fingerprint verified and entry granted - all within 1 second.
Combining contactless RFID with a biometric technology has many advantages. Fingerprint information is held on the card and may be encrypted for security. It does not need to be stored in the reader or on a network, improving security and making systems less complex and easier to install. The readers provide industry-standard outputs for interfacing to a wide variety of access control equipment.
The proximity cards are based on TI's 13,56 MHz Tag-it RFID technology and are fully compatible with the new ISO15693 standard for card interoperability. They feature 2 KB of memory, ample for storing up to two fingerprints - allowing operation even if one finger is damaged.
