Ethernet-ready system on chip

29 January 2003 DSP, Micros & Memory

With the Ethernet protocol becoming the de facto network of choice for ever more professional, office, industrial, and even home environments, it makes sense to develop new systems or leverage existing ones to take advantage of Ethernet connectivity. Advantech' says that its EVA-SOC offers 10/100 Ethernet connectivity using a proprietary 75 MHz RISC-based microprocessor. Combined with a royalty-free realtime OS, this contributes to top performance-to-cost ratio. Integrated components offer the combined benefits of increased reliability, reduced size, reduced costs, and reduced time to market.

SOC: The EVA-X1610C system on chip integrates Ethernet and RS-232 connectivity into an 80C186-compatible 75 MHz RISC microprocessor. This makes it possible to connect serial-port devices to the Ethernet transparently and cost-effectively.

SOM: The System on Module is a mini-PCB featuring the EVA-X1610C chip, plus flash memory (with firmware), SDRAM, Ethernet PHY, WDT, and two serial ports. Firmware includes a robust TCP/IP stack, and RS232 support. Any RS232 enabled device can be ported transparently to Ethernet connectivity.

DK: The Development Kit is everything needed to develop and debug RISC-based systems and applications incorporating Ethernet connectivity. Developers can concentrate on software and system development. The DK includes a carrier board, plus the EVA-X1610C-SOM, 10~30 V d.c. power supply, RJ45 Ethernet connector, plus the EVA-X1610C-DK Development CD, with MicroC/OSII realtime OS & library, Ethernet & RS232 COM port drivers, Ethernet networking protocol stack library and programming guide, and Ethernet networking services (HTTP, Telnet, FTP, SMTP).
