Guests at amusement parks no longer have to carry wallets, purses or cash, and instead can focus on enjoying the activities with the latest RFID-enabled Smart Band wristbands that incorporate radio frequency identification technology from Texas Instruments (TI).
The latest 'Smart Bands' developed by Precision Dynamics Corporation individually identify each customer and allow them to gain access to the park, individual rides, storage lockers, to pay for merchandise and refreshments without having to carry cash. Two major theme parks in the USA - Stone Mountain Park and Six Flags Over Georgia have selected the Smart Band RFID systems.
Each wrist band incorporates a Texas Instruments Tag-it RFid smart label inlay, which uniquely identifies each customer and allows data to be written to and read from the bands to update information and allow access or make payments. The Smart Bands can also enable guests to become the game pieces. A main attraction, a virtual fruit farming game, involves physical, interactive play. The wristbands are used to identify each player, to keep score at each game console, and to record players' point tallies on a master scoreboard.
"Smart Band technology helps bring the game to life," said Irwin Thall, Precision Dynamics Corporation technical sales representative. "Using RFID, we are able to make the game truly interactive, promoting mobility, monitoring progress and facilitating the reward."
