Family of universal line interface units support T1, E1 or J1

26 February 2003 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT Surveillance News & Events

Integrated Device Technology has introduced a complete family of universal line interface units (ULIUs), including octal, quad, dual and single densities. It is intended to enable designers to adopt a re-usable approach to line-card design by using a single board that is configurable through software and may be easily re-scaled to suit different T1, E1 or J1 port densities and loop lengths. The family of ULIU devices is an extension of the company's existing short-haul line interface units (LIUs).

Traditional long-haul applications apply to remote connection of business customers to the central office (CO), while short-haul applications typically apply to the interconnection of equipment within the same CO. Provision of a single, universal line termination, that can be configured for any protocol or loop length on a per port basis, allows T1, E1 or J1 equipment platforms to be used across multiple locations for connection of existing equipment to new packet switched networks.

The IDT ULIU devices target emerging line-card designs that are used in multi-service provisioning platforms, optical multiplexers, integrated multi-service access platforms, and broadband access equipment. While the IDT octal and quad ULIU devices support high-density equipment line-card applications, the dual and single ULIU products - in smaller packages and footprints - are designed for lower density line cards, access equipment and applications sensitive to single points of failure.
