Convert multiple protocols with a single gateway

28 September 2022 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The demand for protocol conversions within a single network has increased tremendously because industrial communication systems are becoming increasingly complex. The MGate series of protocol gateways from Moxa offers a variety of industrial protocol conversions and graphical user interfaces to make configuration easy and intuitive.

Whether conversion is needed from a Modbus RTU system to a Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP or PROFINET-based system, the cMGate series of gateways can perform effortlessly and efficiently, with a quick configuration time.

The MGate MB3xxx series are 1-, 2- and 4-port standard serial-to-Ethernet Modbus gateways which contain one Ethernet port and one, two or four RS-232/422/485 ports. Automatic device routing is provided, and the device also supports routing via TCP port or IP address. Sixteen simultaneous TCP masters with up to 32 simultaneous requests per master can be handled.

The MGate 5105 series is a 1-port Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP-to-EtherNet/IP gateway. The device is capable of connecting fieldbus data to the cloud via generic MQTT packets and supports both EtherNet/IP scanner/adapter modes. Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP master/client and slave/server protocols are supported.

The MGate 5103 series is a 1-port Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP-to-PROFINET gateway. The device supports PROFINET IO device as well as Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP master/client and slave/server protocols. Ethernet cascading is built-in to allow for easy connection and configuration and an embedded traffic monitoring/diagnostic information page is present to aid troubleshooting.

An SD-card slot is available on the 5103 series which can be used to backup all configuration files and event logs. The gateways support redundant dual DC supply inputs and one relay output.
