nanotron Technologies has launched a wireless swarm platform for industrial safety applications. It consists of swarm radios controlled by an application programming interface (API) as well as toolkits enabling fast development and implementation of location-aware applications. The solution is currently used for collision avoidance, secure access and virtual safety zones.
Swarm radios are optimised and tested low-power 2,4 GHz Chirp Spread Spectrum radio modules. They can be directly deployed without the need for low-level driver software. The system can solve several problems wherever distance monitoring and automated communication are crucial. In mining for instance, it can be used for collision avoidance, whereby an alarm is generated if machines or people get too close.
The new nanotron swarm platform relies on swarm intelligence: individuals in a swarm know their position and communicate with one another, thus moving around securely without interfering with each other. Besides communication, it incorporates location awareness and the ability to measure the distances between individuals in the swarm.
