He also announced that, with support from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the company will soon produce the only locally designed and manufactured fire detection equipment for commercial buildings.

ZYTEQ provides an electronics manufacturing service for companies who require the assembly of electronic circuit boards or fully assembled products. With many years of experience in the field, it is able to support local customers with world-class, high-quality manufacturing.

The highly innovative fire detection products that will be produced by ZYTEQ Fire will protect both large and small buildings from risk of fire, thereby protecting lives and property. The products will feature an innovative design that will reduce the cost of installation and ownership by providing building owners with remote access to site information.

At the launch, Mark Mundell, managing director for ZYTEQ, said that the two businesses are complementary as ZYTEQ technologies provides high-quality manufacturing for contract manufacturing customers and that the ZYTEQ Fire products will enhance the contract manufacturing quality and equipment. “We are very excited by the synergies between the businesses which will be to the benefit of all our customers,” he said.

Mundell added that South Africa has a long and proud history in the design of fire detection equipment, saying “We want to continue this tradition but design products that will be able to compete with the best in the world.”

ZYTEQ has invested in state of the art electronic assembly equipment and is able to offer a full range of assembly services, from advice on manufacture and industrialisation to a full supply chain solution. Its factory is planned to create 150 new jobs over the next three years and the fire products will reduce dependence on imported products.
