100 W external power supply claimed world's smallest

13 August 2003 Power Electronics / Power Management

Measuring only 150 x 70 x 35 mm, the convection-cooled and sealed AED100 external AC/DC power supply is claimed to be the world's smallest 100 W unit. This product is important in a market where designers need ever-increasing power for their systems but at the same time are under pressure to keep the size of external power supplies to a minimum.

Launched by power supply specialists XP and represented locally by Vepac Electronics, this unit for use in any commercial or industrial application conforms to EN61000-3-2 and meets EN55022, CISPR22 and FCC Level B conducted and radiated EMC specifications. The AED100 unit has a universal AC input via an IEC320/C14 connector and has all major international safety approvals.

This power supply is offered with a choice of seven standard output connectors, and customer-specified connectors are also available for quantities as low as 10 units. The AED100 offers single output voltages of 12, 15, 18, 19, 24 or 48 V d.c. and maximum output current ratings are 8,25 to 2,1 A respectively. It has a minimum hold-up time of 20 ms at 115 V a.c., 1% peak-to-peak maximum ripple and noise, and both over-voltage and over-current protection. Its 90% efficiency minimises heat generation, allowing compact size. It has 3000 V a.c. input-to-output isolation and ambient operating temperature is 0 to +55°C.

The AED100 complements 36, 45 and 70 W external power supplies in the same family.
