Modem with compression unit makes video surveillance wireless

Video surveillance and alarm verification of remote objects can be crucial in some situations. The problem with remote video surveillance has been the cabling, which tends to be either costly or difficult to set up.

Satel says it has come up with a way to execute long-range video surveillance easily, wirelessly and economically. The system consists of the new Satel-V-Link 100 image compression unit, a video camera and Satel-Line-3AS radio modem. The technical solution rests on the innovative information compression and packaging software. The V-Link 100 system includes three I/O ports for external connection, which can be used to control a variety of functions like lights or alarm buzzers.

The compressed information is sent in the form of digital data packets. To save the bandwidth and to increase the frame rate, only changes in the image are sent. This enables the view under surveillance to be updated one to two times per second, at the maximum. Transmission of video information through a radio modem is economical, as it is not subject to fixed monthly fees.
