Profile on CST Electronics

7 April 2004 News

CST Electronics originated from Tarsus Electronic Components that was formed in 1991 and which established the Dallas Semiconductor and iButton line in the South African market. In 1997 CST Tarsus was established with CST Electronics, formed and owned by Craig Thomson, merging with Tarsus Electronic Components. Shortly after this, the Tarsus part of the name was phased out and the company became known simply as CST Electronics.

In 2002 when Dallas Semiconductor was merged with Maxim Integrated Products, CST Electronics was appointed as the sole distributor for both Dallas and Maxim.

In November 2003 CST Electronics was purchased by Sue Farrell, Glynn Watkins and Ernest Campling. Business continues as usual with Ernest Campling taking over the management. CST will continue its progress on developing and growing the markets that its main suppliers address. Examples of these markets are wireless, TCP/IP control, RFID, GPS and communication via the mains power line.

In the last few years due to customer requirements and potential market, CST has taken on the following new suppliers: Amic - memory products ie, SRAM, FIFO, dual port SRAM and DRAM; Davicom - Ethernet, high speed modems and other networking products; EiC Corp - RF and microwave internally matched amplifiers for low and high power; Melexis - wireless, Hall-effect sensors, RFID, infrared thermal sensors and automotive CAN/LIN BUS products; Quantum Research Group - capacitive sensor ICs for touch control and proximity sensing applications; Como - photo/opto couplers solid-state relays, IC package-based reed-relays and visible LEDs.
