With its new cable line driver, Analog Devices allows designers to lower supply voltages and reduce system costs in their DOCSIS, EuroDOCSIS, and OpenCable designs.
The AD8324, the next generation of ADI's AD8328 cable line driver, operates on a single 3 V supply and is optimised for driving coaxial cables in cable modems and digital set-top boxes.
Digitally controlled with a variable gain amplifier (VGA), the device offers an industry-standard pinout in the 20-lead QSOP and 4 x 4 mm LFCSP packages. The AD8324 accepts a differential or single-ended input signal. An 8-bit serial gain control word adjusts the gain over a 59 dB range (from -25,5 dB to +33,5 dB), with 1 dB/LSB resolution. The output is specified for driving a 75 W load through a 1:1 transformer. The spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) is -52 dBc with an output level up to 61 dBmV at 65 MHz bandwidth. It also features a sleep mode function that reduces the quiescent current to 2,6 mA and a full power-down function that reduces power-down current to 20 µA.
